WELLNESS RECIPE: Easy Raw Choc-Banana “Pudding”

raw choc banana dessertYou know when you get home from a long day at work or you’re parked in front of netflix and you get that craving for a little sweet somethin’-somethin’?

Well I’ve got just the quick, easy and most importantly – healthy! – recipe for you, that literally takes less than 5 minutes to whip up…and will satisfy that sweet spot without the guilt!

INGREDIENTS (1 serve)

1 tbsp hulled tahini (sesame paste)

1 tsp honey

1/2 banana

1 tsp cacao powder or cacao nibs

METHOD

1. Stir together the honey and tahini

2. Mash in the banana thoroughly until you get a smooth consistency

3. If you are using cacao powder you can either stir in or sprinkle on top, but I prefer to use cacao nibs for their bitter-sweetness and satisfying crunch factor

4. Enjoy every mouthful!

NUTRITIONAL BENEFITS:

Tahini is full of beneficial minerals such as magnesium, calcium, phosphorous and iron, and the natural fats contain phytosterols – healthy fats that can lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of cancer. The protein content also helps to slow down the sugar-release of the banana and honey, making it a much gentler sweet-treat on your blood-sugar levels than typical desserts.

And of course, we all know bananas are full of potassium – an essential mineral for helping to control blood-pressure, as well as a good source of dietary fibre for bowel health and to help you feel full.

And lets not forget cacao! Raw cacao contains polyphenols, a type of antioxidant that can prevent the progression of diabetes, cancer, neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases. Cacao also contains a substance called theobromine which helps boost mood, focus and concentration – be careful having too much in the evening though, in sensitive types (like me!) it could keep you awake.

So go ahead – whip this up and enjoy fueling your body with nutrients AND delighting your taste-buds with a lil’ sweetness!!
