Is a Magnesium Deficiency Making You Stressed & Irritable?

Have you been feeling stressed, tired, irritable and grumpy lately?

If so, you could be suffering from an all-too-common magnesium deficiency!

Magnesium is the relaxation mineral, it literally repairs the coating (myelin sheath) around your nerves when it becomes damaged due to stress.

Other signs and symptoms of deficiency include:

  • twitchy eyelids
  • tremors/shaky hands
  • muscle cramps and spasms
  • restless legs
  • constipation
  • sensitivity to light and noise
  • high blood pressure
  • feeling snappy and unable to cope with daily stresses

Unfortunately blood testing for magnesium deficiency is not that reliable, if you suffer from any of the above symptoms, your best bet is taking a supplement for a few months, or on-going if you are particularly sensitive to stress.

Watch the video to find out more as well as which magnesium supplements are worth the money in terms of optimum absoroptuin and which are just cheap and nasty!

And in the comments below, I’d love to hear from you!

Let me know if you found this video helpful or if you are suffering from any of the above symptoms….or feel free to ask me any questions, I’m happy to answer them!

Lastly, if you know someone special that you are pretty sure has a deficiency, share this post with them – it might be just what they need to get back to feeling themselves again 🙂

  1. Hi Sharee

I watched the video and I found out that I might have magnesium definciency because around four months ago I become vegetarian and do not consume meat products at all including eggs and fish. However, I noticed that my behaviour is changed a lot. I am more moody, restlessness , sleeping problems ,anxiety and very depressed. I’m not sure if that is the reason behind it but I feel that I am not the same person anymore . I feel like my piece of happiness have been stolen from me and it really interfere my personal life and overall.
Despite I am healthy and consuming a lot fruits and green vegetables but still same.
I would appreciate if you can give me some piece of advice that I will get back to my normal life .
    Many thanks

    • Hi Elinora 🙂
Thanks for your query, I will do my best to help! Obviously without knowing your full case history and exact diet I can’t be too specific but I will give you some general advice. Given that it is only 4 months since you became a vegetarian, it is unlikely that your symptoms are due to a specific loss of nutrients, but it still may be worth getting your B12, iron and vitamin D checked just in case. It sounds like you are most likely suffering from hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar) given that you are consuming far less protein than before. When your blood sugar levels are not balanced, it has a direct effect on the brain, causing moodiness, anxiety, irritibility, low energy, light-headedness, depression and also sleep issues and frontal headaches. If you want to continue eating vegetarian you need to watch your carbohydrate intake and increase your protein and good fat intake. Avoid eating too many high-carb foods like white flours, potatoes, sugar and even too many really sweet fruits like banana and watermelon as well as dried fruits. Make sure each meal, especially breakfast, has some good fat and good protein in it. (A vegan breakfast example would be to make a smoothie with half an avocado, vegan protein powder such as Sun Warrior, spinach, almond milk and one serve of low GI fruit like apples, berries, kiwi or pears). Eat tempeh a couple of times a week (but don’t overdo the soy products), high protein grains like quinoa, and legumes like lentils, black beans, chick peas etc. Snack on nuts and seeds for more protein and fat. However, if you are already eating like this, or after a few months of eating like this you still don’t feel great, you may need to reconsider cutting out all animal products including eggs – some people do not have a constitution well-suited to vegetarianism, especially if you have a very fast metabolism or if there are underlying gut issues. Working with a naturopath or a holistic nutritionist who can work with you on an individual level is a good idea. Good luck with it, hope you feel back to your old self again soon! 🙂

      • Hi Sharee

Thank you for your suggestions. I thought as well that I may have nurients deficiency due to lack of nutrients in my body. So I will definitely check up with a doctor and hopefully get some solution for this problem.

        Many Thanks

        Elinora
